What have your Liberal Democrat Councillors done for you?

LJBH

Despite not having a majority on Mid Devon District council, we've successfully forced the larger conservative group to implement some of our policies.

This includes Mid Devon adopting a net zero target of 2030, more items collected for recycling, and varying meeting times to increase diversity and encourage younger members. We've challenged on issues relating to the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan and 3 Rivers development, and for a fairer and balanced budget. We'll continue to campaign for the council itself to be run more democratically and transparently, for the benefit of all residents, local businesses and communities.

We continue to campaign for a greener council and for larger housing developments to be developed with the services residents need and minimal environmental damage.

Over in East Devon, we've formed a majority administration with other progressive councillors which has allowed us to pursue positive change for East Devon.

In 2019 Cllr Luke Jeffery got East Devon to commit to Carbon Neutrality by 2040, and Cllr Eleanor Rylance secured a commitment to more Electric Vehicle Charging points in East Devon's car parks. In August Cllr Jeffery also secured a commitment from East Devon to fly the Pride Flag and Bisexual Flag during Pride Month and on Bi-visibility day respectively, and to get the council to do more for the local LGBT+ community. Lib Dem Cllrs also supported a motion to aid gender equality on the council.

As a part of the ruling administration on East Devon we are continuing to work constructively towards a better deal for East Devon. This includes helping to guide the local economy through the turbulent Covid times we live in and continuing work to make East Devon greener.

Responsibility for broadband provision sits with the Tory dominated Devon County Council: as district councillors we don't have the powers to make the improvements our communities need. But that's not the end of the matter for us: we've been campaigning on your behalf for DCC to improve broadband access for our residents. Support our campaign by completing our survey here.
